This month tamariki at BestStart Kawaha Point have been interested in planting and maintaining our “maara kai” our vege garden. During the hot summer weather the gardens have been needing watering which our tamariki have been doing daily, and replenishing the soil as during summer this hot weather dries up the soil. Throughout these gardening experiences tamariki learn how to care for papatuanuku by watering the plants that grow from the soil, basic gardening skills and sustainable practices, these are some values from our centre philosophy that are woven into our children’s everyday experiences. We have also been observing how tall our sunflowers have grown over summertime since the tamariki planted them from seed just before Christmas, they have grown so tall!
