Growing Communication, Confidence and Connection Through Play at Montessori Rongotai

At Montessori Rongotai, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens through collaboration, conversation, and discovery.

This month, children engaged in matching and classification activities together, using real-world images and vocabulary as they explore and make sense of their world.

A key priority for Montessori Rongotai is supporting children's social and emotional development. Experiences like these encourage children to work alongside others, take turns, share ideas, solve problems together, and build confidence in expressing their thinking. As children collaborate, they develop important relationship skills, learn to listen to different perspectives, and experience the joy of achieving a shared goal.

This learning also reflects our current Internal Evaluation focus on strengthening oral language. Throughout these activities, kaiako intentionally support rich conversations by introducing new vocabulary, asking open-ended questions, encouraging descriptive language, and creating opportunities for children to explain their thinking. Whether matching everyday objects, identifying places in the community, or discussing similarities and differences, children are developing the communication skills that form the foundation for future learning and literacy success.

Our Montessori environment is carefully prepared to spark curiosity while providing meaningful opportunities for language-rich interactions. Children are encouraged to explore independently while also engaging in collaborative learning experiences that nurture confidence, belonging, and communication. We are proud to create a learning community where children feel valued, heard, and empowered to share their ideas.

Through purposeful experiences like these, children are building the social, emotional, and language skills they need to thrive both now and in the future.
