At BestStart Epsom, our tamariki came together in a week filled with colour, creativity, and shared purpose during our Butterfly Appeal. Through small acts of giving and working alongside one another, children began to experience what it means to care for others and be part of a wider community.
Throughout the week, tamariki took part in meaningful experiences that brought this idea to life. They helped to make blueberry cupcakes, carefully taking turns to mix, pour, and watch their creations come together. These were then shared with whānau through our little fundraising “shop”, creating a strong sense of pride and excitement as tamariki saw their efforts valued by others.
Our Teddy Bear Picnic was another special moment, where tamariki gathered together, sharing oat cookies with friends — and even their teddy bears. Sitting side by side, they showed kindness and thoughtfulness in simple, natural ways, making sure everyone was included.
Our Blue Dress-Up Day and fashion show also created a strong sense of belonging, as tamariki confidently expressed themselves, took turns, and celebrated one another.
We also shared celebrations such as Holi, St Patrick’s Day, and Eid, giving tamariki opportunities to experience the traditions that are important to their friends and whānau, and to build a deeper sense of connection with one another.
Through these shared experiences, tamariki are growing their understanding that community is built through care, connection, and everyday acts of kindness.
