At BestStart Papakura, we celebrated Heritage Day & whānau disco and dinner in honour of all the amazing and diverse cultures we have within our centre.
All whānau were invited and were asked to bring a cultural dish to share with the rest of the whānau in honour of their culture. All staff also participated and showed off their cultural and where they come from. It was a great event as the majority of our whānau attended. This evening consisted of henna tattooing, weaving and lots of other arts and crafts for the tamariki and their whānau to create together.
We also played a variety of cultural music and confident families came forward and showed us some of their dance moves /cultural dances. It was amazing to see all the different cultural attires that the whānau came dressed in. All the different cultural food was amazing and we had such a spread of things to try.
This evening was a great opportunity to learn more about our whānau cultures and identity and to have some good conversations with the teachers. This event was a huge success!
