We had a very special outing to the art gallery—a day full of exploration, creativity, and connection.
From the moment we set off on our walk to the bus stop, everyone showed great responsibility and maturity, listening carefully to instructions and staying safe along the way.
Ka pai, tamariki mā! At the gallery, we were warmly welcomed into the education room by our teacher for the day, Marg. She introduced us to the artwork of Fred Graham who is a renowned New Zealand artist known for his beautiful wood carvings inspired by Māori culture.
The tamariki were captivated by a carving that told the story of Ranginui and Papatūānuku—a familiar myth from our learning at preschool. It was exciting to see the children make meaningful connections between their existing knowledge and new learning. Another highlight was exploring an artwork that represented the four winds as birds. This sparked the children’s imaginations and inspired them to create their own drawings in the gallery—just like real artists!
Back in the education room, the tamariki added colour to their artworks using pastels, expressing their ideas with confidence and flair. It was a wonderful day of creativity, learning, and discovery for all!
