This week the Tamariki and the kaiako have been enjoying the winter sun, at the moment our focus area for our planning is exploration.
Tamariki have been engaging in lots of learning as they have been exploring outside.
In this particular learning opportunity, the kaiako and tamariki you explored how to make a volcano, first step was to dig a deep hole into the sandpit, then very carefully the Tamariki helped the kaiako put a mixture of baking soda, the poured a few capfuls of vinegar, and what happened next was short of amazing, as the vinegar and soda reacting with the sand, it formed lava, that looked like a real volcano as it spills down the sides of the sand volcano.
Tamariki really enjoyed being part of the learning and the science experience, watching helping their friends take turns a putting some of the ingredients to form the volcano. Our Tamariki also enjoy exploring the sandpit independently on their own, were there is lots of social interactions, using the resources like buckets and spades to further develop their fine motor skills, through meaningful and exciting learning experiences that further build on their creativity, and curiosity in the outside learning environment.
