Celebrating International Day of Friendship at BestStart Montessori Otumoetai!
At Montessori Otumoetai, we celebrated the International Day of Friendship with activities that nurtured connection, empathy, and mutual respect among our tamariki.
The children enjoyed reading stories centred on the theme of friendship, exploring what it means to be a kind and caring friend. They also created handmade friendship bracelets and cards for one another—simple yet meaningful ways to express care, gratitude, and appreciation.
These experiences supported the development of empathy and emotional intelligence, helping children to understand and value the feelings of others. This celebration reflects the Montessori philosophy of fostering peace, respect, and independence in every child.
By engaging in purposeful, hands-on activities in a calm and respectful environment, tamariki were empowered to make thoughtful choices and contribute positively to their learning community. It also aligns with the principles of Te Whāriki, particularly manaakitanga (care and respect), whanaungatanga (relationships), and holistic development.
By working together, showing kindness, and valuing each other’s contributions, children experienced a sense of belonging and connection. International Day of Friendship at Montessori Otumoeti was a beautiful reminder of how nurturing positive relationships helps build a more compassionate and inclusive world—starting with our youngest learners.
