Our wonderful new playground!
The new green turf on our playground is so nice underfoot, it just inspires one to move … so let’s move!
Today we set up some jumps!
The value of running and jumping helps develop one’s fitness, coordination, balance, and jumping skills. Jumping over obstacles – children have to think about the take-off phase (ground push off) as well as landing (and keeping their balance).
The concept of two different types of jumps – high and long. Group playground games promote social interaction among peers, especially when nga kaiako encourage our children to praise the efforts of their peers when they have completed a circuit.
The jump circuit had jumps with height as well as jumps that had length, and this was talked about prior to starting. Our tamariki were keen to line up and wait for their turn. The pace of their run was fast, and no rails were knocked down. Impressively, the rug (long jump) was cleared (no feet landed).
Well done, tamariki!
