At BestStart Glenfield, tamariki helped spread warmth and kindness through “Jammies in June” and a board book drive. By giving pajamas and books, children learned about empathy, community, and the joy of helping others.
In June, the Glenfield community came together for a heartwarming initiative: collecting cosy pajamas for children in need at Middlemore Hospital. BestStart Glenfield became a collection point for the whole community, not just our centre whānau, and the donations were amazing.
“Jammies in June” is more than just a donation drive—it’s a powerful way to teach young children about empathy, kindness, and the importance of giving. Preschoolers eagerly brought in new pajamas, knowing their gifts would help keep other children warm and comforted during hospital stays. These small acts of generosity planted seeds of compassion, showing our tamariki that even at a young age, they can make a meaningful difference.
Alongside the pajama collection, we also gathered board books for babies in foster care through Foster Hope. These books offer more than stories—they provide connection, comfort, and a sense of belonging to children navigating uncertain beginnings.
By participating in these efforts, our preschoolers learned that giving isn’t just about things—it’s about love, care, and community. These experiences help shape children into thoughtful, caring individuals. When they see the joy of helping others, they begin to understand the value of community and the strength of kindness.
We’re proud of our little helpers and grateful to support organisations like Middlemore Hospital and Foster Hope in their incredible work.
