At BestStart Abacus we strive on building relationships with our local community focusing on sustainability and helping our ākonga grow and understand how they can respect nature. We want to develop a sense of kaitiaki (Guardianship) within ākonga so they act as guardians, protectors and conservationists now and in the future.

Under the guidance of our helpful mentor Heidi who is from Kids Greening Taupo, eight of our bigger tamariki, a few of our lovely parents who volunteered and two of our teachers, attended a local event called Greening Taupo, where we were 'Painted the town green'. The children were overjoyed to participate in tree-planting activities, gaining valuable insights on environmental care and community support as they joined hands to nurture nature.

Over 1500 beautiful native plants were added to our Centennial Drive location. Within our center our week was buzzing with eco-friendly activities, from art with natural materials to worm-learning sessions for the little ones. We celebrated Earth-conscious efforts with best-dressed contests, environmental home activities, and gardening competitions, ending in a joyful raffle that left one lucky boy beaming with prizes.

BestStart Abacus is incredibly thankful for the support and funds raised, which fuel our mission to connect our BestStart Abacus tamariki with the wonders of the natural world.
