We started the year with a bang here at BestStart Marne St, with a fabulous holiday programme that had the tamariki engaged and excited, asking to go to daycare each day. However highlight of the month was our annual Athletics day. Our 12 oldest children, along with teachers and whanau made their way over to College Street Normal School to take part in our annual inter-hub athletics competition against our 7 other regional centres.

With a focus on getting the tamariki ready for what school has to offer as well as feeding into our BestStart Hauora and Healthy heart initiatives, that see our tamariki getting out and active and looking after their health and wellbeing, we had the most amazing day taking part it activities that related to the throw, jump, run programme and celebrating success and participation.

Our Marne Street tamariki showed the other centres what it means to truly be a ‘Kindness Kid’ showing our vision is alive and kicking, as they cheered for their team mates. They used beautiful manners when approaching each activity, engaged in a positive way with the other teams. One super kindness kid even went out of his way to help up another child when he fell over during a race, giving him a hug and letting them know that they still did a great job, melting a few hearts with his empathy and kindness. With Ariki bringing home the trophy for best gumboot throw and the team bringing home the award for best dressed, we can’t wait to join in the fun again next year and see what else we can achieve.
