Here at BestStart Milson Line we have had lots of exciting learning happening across all age groups, with our preschoolers focusing on 'Who am I?'
We looked at their family trees, who they identify as, where their favourite places to go eg; supermarket, park, etc. and make links to real life experiences from out in the community and making links to social skills and emotional wellbeing support.
In the toddlers' space its around exploration of playing, imagining and inventing and linking to the maori concept of enhancing Mana - where all children realise their full potential, respect their own and others abilities.
In our under twos space we have had a strong focus on literacy and language development linking to our latest selo contract, this has seen to be a massive impact on our learners, the growth and development of the pepi has seen great impact, response from whanau has been incredible and we are so proud to see the confidence in each individual.
Parent feedback given on StoryPark as well as verbally to teachers about how amazing their learning and development has come and the learning of new words are being used at home also. A new focus in the under twos space extended from this is now around books and storytelling, incorporating more spontaneous mat times into daily curriculum and practice.
This sees the tamariki asking for songs, puppets, books, and the use of repetition has benefited greatly into their learning and understanding. We acknowledge and embrace all kaiako's individual strengths and what they can bring to our centre as well as their own learning spaces, to create a unique place of growth and development for all tamariki and their whanau.
We continue to strive and grow in this space of learning by taking part in PLD and creating inquiries to benefit ourselves as kaiako as well as benefit our learners. Our strategic plan sees our development plans in our set for school program, and community involvement, we are excited to take some leaps foward in these areas, learn together and grow together to embed strong practices in the future and what this will look like for BestStart Milson Line, Including regular excursions out into the community, familiar places such as the park and wet pets animal store this will be for all age groups and all kaiako will be involved.
In the month of May, we celebrated Mother's Day in our centre by the children baking cookies, creating beautiful cards with craft and photos to give to their special mums/person, this was a joint effort by all Kaiako. We also acknowledged Pink Shirt Day here at Beststart Milson Line on Friday the 16th May, taking part in this day is to eliminate bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion.
