Did You Know Your Child Is a Scientist, Mathematician and Storyteller?

Here at BestStart St Andrews, our vision “Growing Great Together” reflects the way we see learning — children, teachers and whaanau growing, discovering and learning alongside one another.

Through everyday experiences, we see learning in ACTION! Science, Maths and communication are woven naturally into our everyday experiences. Whether we are planting in the garden, exploring water and sand, watching insects or noticing changes in the weather, your tamariki are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions and investigate how the world works.

Your tamariki develop mathematical thinking as they count, sort, measure, compare, recognise patterns, explore shapes and solve problems. Building a tower, sharing resources or working out how many cups we need can all become meaningful mathematical experiences.

Through this play, your tamariki are developing the confidence in using mathematical language and begin to see maths as something meaningful that is part of their everyday world. Through conversations, stories, songs and play, your tamariki are learning to express their ideas, listen to others, build relationships and develop their vocabulary.

Our kaiako extend this learning by asking thoughtful questions and encouraging children to explain their thinking. At St Andrews, “Growing Great Together” means creating an environment where children feel confident to wonder, explore, communicate and have a go — growing as capable, curious and confident learners together.

We would love for you to pop down for a visit to see the many exciting experiences that we offer here at St Andrews!
