Here at BestStart Riccarton we love to have fun while we are learning and our kaiako get very creative when setting up our classrooms. This teaching moments that we get to be a part of not only let us different and fun ways to learn but also let us gain important skills that will set us up to succeed for our next big journey which is school.

These photos highlight some of these important skills such as:

Problem Solving: Learning how to problem solve by completing the mystery shapes on the card. This develops their critical thinking skills where they explore different objects and try these on the puzzle.

Communication Skills: When we use Messy play: this encourages our tamariki to play alongside others, engage in conversation and develops their imagination as they use different materials/tools in any way they could think of.

Exploring the Sandpit: Not only do we get to use our gross motor skills when playing in the the sandpit but these photos highlight how we are also learning about our community.

Tamariki are learning how to look after our awa in the community by making sure they are free from rubbish. This activity also teaches them cause and effect as they learn that rubbish in our awa / moana will destroy the habitat of our kaimoana.
