Learning with Leopard Slugs
This month at BestStart Montessori Kapit we had some rather special slimy visitors which were Leopard slugs. While they were visiting for the day we learnt some interesting facts about these slugs such as their top speed is 15 cm a minute. Alongside the slugs the compost they were in held many other interesting creatures such as worms, ear-wigs and spiders. This lead to even more exciting conversations and squeals of delight. At the end of the day tamariki were assured that the slugs would be returned to their natural habitat.
This was such a fun learning experience and an interesting way to provide an opportunity for them to experience the natural world and see some of the unique creatures we share it with.
