Leaving circle love and respect

At Montessori Bethlehem we take pride in promoting respectful relationships.  When children leave our centre to go off to school we carry out a leaving circle, at the end of which, the child leaving asks each of their fellow classmates whether they would like a hug or a handshake.

This helps the children learn that even though giving hugs is a nice thing to do, not everyone might enjoy them as much as you do and that it is nice to seek clarification around decisions we make.

Reading people’s faces, understanding their perspective and respecting other people’s feelings is a skill once learnt, will be used through out your lifetime.
