As part of literacy in the classroom: Kaiako have been implementing intentional teaching moments that centres on - letter recognition and the sound of letters. To open the session - in a fun manner - a ‘jingle type song’ is played to our tamariki. Our tamariki enjoy holding up a letter and moving the letter to the music as well as, singing the ‘Letter Land ‘song. Our tamariki are collectively showing an interest in our focus on letters (as per our class planning). They are recognizing letters throughout the classroom, linking them to their own names and sharing with their parents what they have been learning. Tamariki have been deepening their knowledge of letters through a variety of tools, creating with blocks, in the sandpit, building with magnets, doing puzzles and playing games with their friends. Our journey into letter land children are learning: - Alphabet knowledge - Phonics knowledge - Children are enhancing their verbal and written language - Children are expressing themselves creatively and seeing themselves as capable learners - And most of all they are having fun! As Literacy and numeracy are also a government focus, we are supporting the ongoing development of tamariki to help them succeed in the school system.
