At BestStart Vivian Street we are dedicated to helping the tamariki at our centre to be school ready so we have initiated a weekly visit to our Library for four year olds to give them this opportunity. We walk to the library together, spend some free time enjoying the resources then it is story time. Later the children write a story accompanied by an illustration. Each child shares their story with the group. Before we return to the centre we have some morning tea and a drink before walking back.

These weekly trips enable tamariki to develop their concentration, patience and task completion skills. It also extends letter recognition and ongoing development of language and communication skills. Our centre aspires to ignite a passion for learning. It is also a great way to be part of the community as we walk to the Library and interact with other people.
