Matariki at BestStart Shelly Bay Road was a beautiful celebration of culture, connection, and togetherness. With storytelling, waiata, and weaving, our tamariki and community embraced the values that bind us—people, love, and unity.
At BestStart Shelly Bay Road, we value community connections and the celebration of cultural events. For our Matariki celebrations this year, we came together with our whānau and members of our local community.
George, our local kaumātua who visits us regularly and is a treasured taonga of our centre, came in and shared beautiful waiata and stories with the children. Our tamariki embraced te ao Māori and enjoyed a special time of connection, love, and music with George.
We were also excited to welcome back Elizabeth to join us once again for Matariki. Elizabeth shared her passion for weaving and taught the tamariki how to make putiputi (flowers). The children were captivated and thoroughly enjoyed the weaving process.
Matariki reminded us that we are stronger together—celebrating our unique identities and traditions and uniting us as one. This truly reflects the spirit of unity and connection that defines our centre’s values and beliefs.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.
What is the most important thing in this world? It is people, it is people, it is people.
