🌟 A Night to Remember – Celebrating Matariki at BestStart Waitangirua 🌟 Our tamariki took to the stage on June 19th to share their Matariki learning with confidence, creativity, and heart. It was a special evening that brought our community together in celebration.

Each room explored three Matariki stars through rich learning experiences, creative costumes, and meaningful conversations. Tamariki and kaiako worked together to bring their knowledge to life through performance, supported by an incredibly proud audience of whānau and friends.

BestStart Waitangirua celebrated Matariki by holding a concert on 19th June 2025 for our whanau evening. The Harakeke room (Infants), Awarua room (Toddlers) and Rereroa (Preschool room), learnt the nine stars of Matariki. Each classroom head teacher selected 3 stars from the centre manager, taking this back to their classroom where lots of planning, matariki experiences, learning, understanding and practicing occurred.

The tamariki and kaiako worked so hard to prepare for this event, having conversations with whanau and tamariki, and what this means to tangata whenua and manuhiri of Aotearoa. The head teachers also planned and discussed with their teams about costumes inspired by the songs they have learnt, and having the ability to see this creativity approved by tamariki and represented on stage wtih courage, confidence and perfect performance.

On the evening of the concert we had a proud audience of parents, siblings, aunties, uncles, grandparents, whanau, friends and community. The out pour of positive feedback from whanau, the excitement and readiness of tamariki to perform was a very great achievement for us all (admin, student teacher, kaiako, whanau and centre manager and tamariki).
