Our centre came together to celebrate Matariki—a time to reflect, reconnect, and look ahead with hope. With heartfelt waiata, karakia, proud tamariki performances, and shared kai, it was a joyful evening filled with aroha and community spirit.

On Thursday, we all came together as a community to celebrate Matariki—a special time to reflect, reconnect, and look ahead with hope.

As we gathered for the Matariki night celebration, I had the honour of inviting a Māori whānau (Ngawai—Champ’s grandma) to open the evening with a traditional karakia and a waiata (song). This was a meaningful gesture, acknowledging the significance of Matariki as a time of reflection, remembrance, and hope.

As the evening unfolded, her heartfelt karakia and beautiful waiata set a tone of unity and reverence, highlighting the spirit of Matariki—a time to celebrate new beginnings and the interconnectedness of all living things.

The whānau’s insights into gratitude resonated strongly, reminding us all of the importance of acknowledging and giving thanks for our blessings.

Our tamariki very proudly performed the haka and other waiata 🎶. We shared laughter and fun with a disco night and delicious kai 🍽️.

Overall, it was a touching experience, blending cultural understanding with heartfelt celebration, encapsulating the essence of Matariki.

Thank you to all our wonderful families for your support and presence. Your aroha made this celebration truly meaningful.

Mānawatia a Matariki!
