We’re so excited to introduce the newest members of our Coast whānau — our beautiful fish!
Our tank is now home to ten colourful swimmers: five bright Neon Tetras and five playful Mollies.
They’ve already brought so much joy and wonder into our centre. Every morning, the children love stopping by the tank to say a cheerful “kia ora!” to the fish, and in the afternoons, they make sure to check in again before heading home — always making sure their tiny friends are safe and happy.
Watching the fish has quickly become a calm and magical moment in many of our tamariki’s days. Three times a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — we invite small groups of children to help with feeding time. This simple routine is already teaching them so much: responsibility, empathy for living creatures, patience, and the importance of gentle hands.
Caring for fish also supports early science learning as children observe how animals grow, move, and interact with their environment. We recently discovered an exciting surprise — a tiny baby fish has joined our tank! We can’t wait to watch him grow alongside our tamariki. Come and visit our fish at Coast!
Pop in and meet our new friends anytime — we’d love to share the excitement with you.
