The Kahu Room learners have shown a very strong interest in insects and bugs this year. They have gone on many a bug hunt and caught some extremely large spiders and beetles (and insisted on taking these home, to the dismay of their mothers!).

Fortunately, we are situated almost opposite the Ministry for Primary Industries and one of our parents who works there offered to bring over an entomologist and some insect samples to show our children! The visit by the MPI officers was greatly enjoyed by our children, who inspected the creepy-crawlies with great interest and asked a lot of thought-provoking questions about insects! These were answered by the experts with great insight and satisfied our learners' curiosity about this topic.

BestStart Burnside is very fortunate to be able to have the support of the businesses and other organisations in our area to enhance the curriculum we offer in the Kahu Room. Thanks to this support, we are able to design a local curriculum that is robust and engages our learners. As a result of this, tamariki are able to begin to develop techniques to investigate their world to ensure that they are Set For School.
