Children are enjoying a new chicken coop and refreshed garden at our centre. The space encourages responsibility, curiosity, and hands-on learning while connecting tamariki with nature, animals, and where their food comes from.
We recently had a new chicken coop built in our garden area, thanks to the support of a couple of our lovely parents. This has created an opportunity for the children to learn about caring for animals, responsibility, and where our food comes from. Everyone is enjoying watching the chickens settle into their new home. The space is becoming a shared area that encourages curiosity and connection with nature.
Over the last weekend, our head kaiako, Zara, and whānau came in to see the new space and took great care tidying up the garden area. They made the area around the chicken coop look fresh and welcoming, ready for the chickens and children to explore.
We cleared away old plants and added fresh soil to the new planter box, making the garden area well cared for and inviting. The tidy-up has made the space safer and more functional, preparing it for children to engage in daily care routines with the chickens.
Everyone is looking forward to seeing how this new space enhances our garden and provides hands-on learning for the children. We can’t wait to add new plants to make the area even more vibrant and welcoming for everyone to enjoy.
