At BestStart Pukuatua we have recently made an exciting change to our centre, moving from three learning spaces to four. Along with these changes came new names for our special learning spaces. Our four-year-old room became the Tarawera Room, named after Lake Tarawera, so we began a project to help understand where our room name came from. We made plans along accompanied by visuals to help our process in constructing a paper mache volcano called Mt. Tarawera using various materials including a soda bottle, cardboard, sticky tape and paper. We have been using this to make explosions and eruptions, just like a real volcano.
