Currently, we are focusing on Tangaroa - Atua of the sea as we are in the season of Raumati/summer, we know that many of our whānau are enjoying time at the beaches and rivers and it is important for us to support our tamariki in learning about water safety and conservation as well as learning about Tangaroa's creatures of the sea.

An important part of our learning is also focused on our social and emotional learning and how we can link this to our Atua, in the case of Tangaroa we talk with ngā tamariki about how when our emotions are calm and relaxed it is like the gentle lapping of the waves on the beach but when we are feeling angry or frustrated it is like the wild waves of a storm.

Ngā tamariki throughout BestStart Willowpark enjoy engaging in a variety of activities and experiences that link to Tangaroa including waiata such as "Kina, kina" and "Tohora Nui", art experiences using the colors of the sea (blue, green, etc.), a variety of water activities, activities involving sea creatures and so much more.
