Our nursery pēpi at BestStart Papanui recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to Mitre 10, providing a wonderful opportunity to explore the wider community and experience learning beyond the centre gates.
Getting out and about is an important part of our curriculum, helping tamariki develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging within their local community. Excursions offer rich opportunities for sensory exploration, language development, and social interaction as children discover new sights, sounds, and experiences.
During our visit, the babies were fascinated by the colourful plants, busy aisles, and friendly faces they encountered along the way. There were plenty of opportunities for meaningful conversations, pointing, observing, and exploring together.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the playground! The tamariki loved climbing, crawling, sliding, and exploring the different equipment. Their smiles and laughter filled the space as they challenged themselves physically and celebrated their achievements.
These experiences support developing coordination, balance, and confidence while having lots of fun. This excursion also reflected one of Papanui's core values, Ako. Ako recognises that learning is a shared journey where tamariki and kaiako learn alongside one another. Through exploration and discovery in our community, we all gained new experiences and knowledge together.
Ka mau te wehi, pēpi mā! We look forward to many more adventures in our local community.
