Nursery - Community Walk

Here at BestStart Te Whāriki we enjoy getting our under 2’s out for wee walks around the neighbourhood.

We pack them up in our strollers and head out. We have a few places we go to, but more recently we enjoyed a morning play at the local tennis courts with balls, having little running races and also pulling faces through the tennis net.

Excursions are a big part of us exploring our local area. The children get to explore a bigger playground where they can challenge themselves. This supports their physical and active play and allows them to gain control of their bodies and increases confidence.

We threw and practiced catching balls, we lined up cones and kicked them over and the best challenge of all was created by your amazing children as they found innovative ways to get themselves under the tennis net - some crawled, some did a limbo move and others simply pushed through it! We also like to explore the natural side, such as mother earth where their children can safely explore hands on with materials and gives our tamariki the opportunity to develop ideas about how things work in the living, physical, material and spiritual worlds.

Our trips allow our tamariki to learn about the community they belong to, discover the local history and culture, and experience new sights sound and smells.
