At BestStart Vivian Street we had the opportunity to go on a bus trip around town, tamariki were very excited as we had talked about it in the week leading up to it. We talked about being safe while out walking and what we needed to do to keep ourselves safe, this is part of our curriculum, where tamariki have a sense of wellbeing, and recognize their ability to keep themselves and other's safe.

This also provided tamariki the opportunity to get out in the community and practice those social skills, also refining active listening and making informed choices and judgements while out and about. By going out on this bus trip, tamariki once again were given the opportunity to make connections between people, places and important things in their world.  They pointed out where some of them lived, where parents worked and recognized important landmarks and places they have spend special times with whanau. It was great when someone requested a song and everyone joined in quietly, being aware of other passengers on the bus. By providing tamariki with opportunities to explore the wider community in this way, we are bringing our "A game" to ignite a passion for teaching and learning.
