These pictures show how happily our adorable tamariki are playing with gloop, matching colors, practicing carpentry and pounding nails, and generally getting messy. These activities are full of educational potential, allowing our toddlers to freely explore many facets of the materials at their own pace while also helping them strengthen their fine motor skills.

Our current preschool curriculum centers on the exploration and development of fine motor skills. Through relevant learning experiences offered by their kaiako, we are helping our tamariki strengthen their fine motor abilities. While they participate in the tasks or activities, they challenge our tamariki's body and mind and support in their physical growth. Many of our tamariki are reaching a developmental stage where they wish to grow into greater independence and responsibility; so, providing them with access to these learning opportunities will cater to their needs and interests at this point in their development.

Along with many other practical self-tasks, these help children be able to feed themselves, dress themselves, button and zip their shirts and pants, solve problems, focus, and many more. Additionally, these boost their self-esteem. A child's self-esteem increases when they use their fine motor abilities to complete self-help tasks. These abilities will also help students in primary school since they promote independent learning, critical thinking, problem solving, focus, and in-depth experiences with real-world learning. This ability is crucial in learning to write.
