What a delightful walk today into the community to discover things that start with the letter “Dd” - our letter of the week. This is a wonderful way of  linking learning to our direct Community environment as we looked for things that started with Dd and looked for the symbol “Dd” on signs etc.

At first we discovered some Dandelion flowers and blew away the seeds up into the air. Next, we found the letter”Dd” on signs, car license plates and other items. We walked past places we often visit like the Library and the local Food bank. Today we didn’t go in but it is great to go past and remember what happens in these community locations.

Outside the Library, we discovered a statue that looked like a ‘dragon’ and saw a friendly ‘dog’ named Poppy who was happy to have her photo taken.

Coming back we stopped at the reserve for a ‘drink’ and ‘dance’...so many “Dd” words and actions!

What a neat link to our ongoing literacy programme and a wonderful way for our older tamariki to feel empowered to lead their own learning in a real and authentic way.

We hope the tamariki keep finding lots of “Dd” things for you all week!
