Our Matariki celebration Omahu

Our Matariki celebration Omahu

Matariki brings the old lunar year to a close and marks the beginning of a new year with the rising of the Matariki star cluster.

The rooms celebrated it in their own was this year, Pohutukawa had a whanau evening to mark this special occasion. Getting together is always a special time that everyone cherrishes.

Here at BestStart Omahu, our tamariki really enjoyed exploring Matariki in their own ways. Pohutukawa had a whanau evening to mark this special occasion, all whanau were invited - getting together is always a special time that everyone cherishes. The children helped get the room ready and were so excited to have their families come along to all celebrate together.

Deborah, the Head Teacher opened the evening with a beautiful karakia and speech, the tamariki really enjoyed showcasing their special mahi that's around the room, and it was a great opportunity for the kaiako to spend quality time with the whanau, that was able to attend to connect and reconnect, share where their children are at and to set new goals for them. There was UV face paint and an amazing kai for everyone to share and enjoy.

It's been really nice to be able to welcome whanau back into the centre for events like this since covid times.
