"Cakes" and "cookies" seem to be most popular dishes made in our mud kitchen, although occasionally "pizzas" and "chicken" also make an appearance on our menu. It is fabulous to see our young tamariki model playing and rein acting what they see happening in their wider world. Whether it be watching our cook at the centre do baking our helping in the kitchen at home with their family, then bringing these experiences to life within their play at the centre.

Role play is such a fantastic way for nga tamariki to make sense of their wider world and all the things happening around them, to explore these concepts in their own time and create their own working theories around what is happening, the why and how. Role play is also such a glorious way to for children develop social and communication skills.

As their collaborate with their peers around the different roles and duties in the kitchen, best of all who the cake is for and who will blow out the "candles".
