Early this morning we froze some buckets of water with animals in them to see what our tamariki would do, and how they would respond.  Our tamariki tried every which way to see how the animals ended up stuck in the ice in the first place.  They even tried to bite away at it.  It was interesting because the water had frozen around the outside, but in the middle the water did not freeze.  This made a wonderful sensory experience and an opportunity to prompt their curiosity.   After observing our tamariki for awhile, we decided to get a hammer to break the ice and release the water which was really cold.  You could certainly see the look of awe and wonder and almost anxiousness  as we began hammering away at the ice blocks.  What a wonderful learning moment for our tamariki.
