Pōhutukawa Set for School Classroom
Today was a truly special moment in our Pōhutukawa classroom, as our tamariki proudly shared their rainbow artwork and imaginative stories. Each child confidently held their creation, their faces glowing with pride, joy, and a strong sense of identity.
Through art and storytelling, tamariki expressed their thoughts, experiences, imagination, and emotions. Their voices were confident and meaningful, showing how storytelling supports oral language, identity, and early literacy development.
Birdie’s Story – “My Rainbow Flower Story”
Birdie proudly shared her rainbow flower drawing and explained:
“When I saw a flower it was like a rainbow. It smelled like roses. When I saw it, I recognised there was a bee on the top. Then I saw a kind little bumblebee. The bumblebee gave a treat for being kind. The treat was a red strawberry.”
Birdie demonstrated rich imagination and expressive language. She described colours, smells, and events in sequence, showing her growing storytelling skills. Her story reflected empathy, kindness, and creativity, while strengthening her identity as a capable storyteller and communicator.
Aacia’s Story – “My Rainbow Car”
Aacia proudly held her artwork and shared:
“My new car… my dad and mum bought it for me. Rainbow like me. I love all colours. In my car I go to the paint shop. I will paint Peppa Pig.”
Aacia expressed her ideas with excitement and confidence. She connected her drawing to her family, experiences, and identity. Her storytelling showed imagination and strong oral language development, as well as pride in sharing her voice.
Elizabeth’s Story – “Flying Across the Sea”
Elizabeth shared her drawing and imaginative journey:
“Me and Mum were flying around the sea in my ship. We found land. We flew around and saw pirate ships and stars in the sky. Then we landed on an island far away.”
Elizabeth used expressive storytelling, describing events clearly and confidently. Her imagination took us on a meaningful journey, highlighting her creativity and growing communication skills.
