Today we went for a walk/hīkoi to the bus stop this morning so we could catch the bus to the library in town. The Pukeko tamariki/preschool children, spent ages talking about the number and colour of the bus we were going to be catching. Once we made it to the library, we first noticed that there was a display cabinet so we had a look/titiro at what was inside and we spotted....... elf! (just like we have in our classrooms).

In the special cabinet, elf had some some native bird friends which the tamariki recognized instantly..... a pukeko and pīwakawaka! (the same as our classroom names) The Pīwakawaka tamariki/nursery children, loved looking at this cabinet and came back multiple times, spotting the different birds such as the kiwi and kea. We also noticed some elf footprints on the ground, leading up to the cabinet. We even found some pictures of elf around the library upon further exploring.

We had a look at the lego station and spent ages building creations. We then went for look at what was on the next two floors up. We found a librarian and the tamariki had a wee chat with her and asked some question. We then looked at some books/pukapuka and picked some to bring back to preschool, including some Christmas books!
