Every Friday morning a group of our 4 year olds at BestStart Vivian Street and 2 teachers visit the New Plymouth library. We enjoy the walk from BestStart in Vivian Street and have great conversations on the way. At the library tamariki have a few minutes of free time to explore and then they choose some books for the teachers to read. Once the stories have been read tamariki get their books and pencils and are set a task. This is a positive way for tamariki to develop their concentration, patience, persistence and task completion skills. Our weekly visit is to support tamariki to be school ready when they turn 5 and embark on their new school journey. Before we leave we always have morning tea on the steps of the library. Some cool cookies and a drink of water. Then off we walk back to the centre.

Once a term we visit the museum instead of the library and this is always a lot of fun, where tamariki get to explore the different exhibits.
