In The Workshop we have been discussing and investigating what is in our local community.

We decided to visit our local fruit and veggie shop to choose some fruit and vegetables for afternoon tea and then head off to Duck Island for a special treat to buy our own ice creams.

Well, what a gorgeous afternoon we all had! The weather really behaved itself for our big trip and we set off out into the yonder of Ponsonby to see what we could find.

We discussed the roadworks and what they could be for as we strolled up Vermont Street and commented on the colours of people's front doors and the beautiful plants and trees growing in their front gardens.  The children all had fantastic awareness of road safety and behaved so responsibly as we navigated the bustling afternoon on Ponsonby Road. When we reached Bhana Bros, we admired the beautiful arrangement of flowers they had outside and shared opinions on which were our favourites!

Inside, we look at the different fruits and vegetables that they had on offer, including grapefruits, eggplants and ginger, and then selected some tangelos and two different types of apple to buy for afternoon tea. The lovely lady who works on the till was so kind and answered all of our questions about how much the produce costed. She was so impressed by the maturity that all of the children showed!

We then went back down Ponsonby Road towards Duck Island where lovely Olivia greeted us behind the counter! The children showed impeccable manners, patience and such responsibility when choosing their flavours to sample. Kelli and I were so proud of how our children represented our centre so well.
