Protecting and nurturing our natural environment
At BestStart Merivale, we care for our natural environment and make all possible efforts to protect and look after it. We started the preparations for our garden since early summer, and each staff member, along with the children, keep adding their efforts in planting, watering and caring for our vegetables and herbs. Our wonderful cook took lot of effort planting and encouraging the children to care and look after the garden. We have been using the fresh vegetables picked up by the children in our cooking which are fresh and healthy and children are enjoying them too. We've been exploring the caterpillar;s chrysalis they found on the plants and we are learning about them during our mat times and we even read the story of "The Hungry Caterpillar".
As all things are born from mother earth and nurtured by her including mankind, children learn to make choices and actions that make the world a better place, they form the habits to make a valuable connection with Papatūānuku (the mother earth). Children play a vital role in caring for life and learn to nurture for future generations.
