At BestStart Pipiwai Road, we believe that meaningful learning happens when tamariki are given opportunities to explore, wonder, create, and make discoveries at their own pace.
Our kaiako intentionally design and set up provocations that reflect the interests, needs, and developmental milestones of our tamariki. These experiences encourage children to become active participants in their learning while building confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.
Provocations are carefully planned invitations to play and explore. Our kaiako observe what captures the attention of tamariki and use these observations to create experiences that extend their learning. Whether it is a sensory exploration, an art experience, a construction activity, a nature-based discovery, or imaginative play, each provocation has a purpose behind it.
Our intentional teaching is evident in the way kaiako select resources, arrange the environment, and consider how each experience can support the individual learning journey of each child. We provide open-ended materials that allow tamariki to explore different possibilities, express their ideas, and develop problem-solving skills.
Kaiako remain present and responsive, asking thoughtful questions, offering encouragement, and extending children's thinking without taking over their learning.
Provocations also provide valuable opportunities to support important milestones. Through these experiences, tamariki can develop their language, communication, social skills, fine and gross motor abilities, independence, and emotional well-being. Most importantly, their interests are recognised and valued.
At BestStart Pipiwai Road, our provocations are more than activities. They are thoughtfully planned learning opportunities. By combining careful observation with intentional planning and responsive teaching, our kaiako create engaging experiences where every tamariki can explore their interests, experience success, and continue progressing along their unique learning journey.
