During February the children in the Pūkeko room at BestStart Willowpark Road have been interested in puzzles and manipulative play. This type of play stimulates some really great learning.

Manipulative play refers to resources that can be “manipulated” in different ways, this could be for things such as sorting, stacking, seriation or posting which are all early maths concepts that our children are developing as they look at colour, shape and size. Children are also developing fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, concentration, perseverance and problem-solving skills as they manoeuvre puzzle pieces to fit the “gap”.
