Here at Best Start Pukuatua, we take road safety seriously.
In our preschool unit ,we have bikes and trikes out at regular intervals. However, we have a rule - No helmet, no bike!
We take safety, especially road safety, seriously. Road safety education provides enhanced safety awareness. This means children learn to identify safe paths and dangerous situations, helping them to navigate their environment more carefully.
helps to develop essential pedestrian skills such as stopping, looking and listening, which are crucial for crossing roads and staying safe on pavements and near driveways. We planted signs around the centre environment that we see in the community and drew a pedestrian crossing on the concrete with chalk.
As the bikes approached the pedestrian crossing, they looked up a the yellow signs and stopped so someone could cross. We practiced this over and over again. By practicing this skill we are helping to create safer communities as our Tamariki become active participants in ensuring their own safety and the safety of others. Improved independence increases and the understanding that the signs and symbols that we see in the community have importance in other environments as well.
We love to have fun here at BestStart Pukuatua and incoporating safety into our fun increases our learning capability. Come and see this amazing learning for yourself.
