What an exciting and fun-filled first week of our School Holiday Programme! Our tamariki enjoyed a wonderful range of themed days, creative experiences, adventures, and opportunities to learn and play together. There was plenty of laughter, imagination, curiosity, and wonderful memories made throughout the week.

Monday – Book Day & Character Dress-Up

We kicked off our holiday programme with Book Day and Character Dress-Up! Some tamariki came dressed as their favourite book characters and enjoyed sharing their wonderful costumes with their friends.

Our special story focus was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We read the story together and talked about the caterpillar’s journey, the different foods he ate, colours, counting, and his transformation into a beautiful butterfly.

Tamariki also enjoyed creating their own Very Hungry Caterpillar-inspired artwork, using their creativity and imagination to bring the story to life.

Tuesday – Cultural Day

It was all about celebrating the wonderful cultures and diversity within our centre community. Tamariki had opportunities to share, explore, and learn about different cultures through music, language, art, stories, and cultural experiences.

It was a lovely day of recognising and celebrating the many cultures that make our learning community so special.

Wednesday – Teddy Bear Picnic

We saw lots of cuddly soft toys, not just teddy bears, but a wide range of special soft toys that tamariki brought from home. They brought along their favourite cuddly friends and enjoyed spending the day caring for, talking about, and playing with them.

We shared stories, enjoyed imaginative play, and had a fun picnic together for afternoon tea. There were lots of smiles and wonderful moments as tamariki included their special friends in their play and adventures.

Thursday – Treasure Hunt Day

Arrr, mateys! It was time for an exciting Treasure Hunt. Tamariki became little explorers as they searched around the centre for hidden treasures.

They worked together, followed clues, explored different spaces, and used their problem-solving skills to discover where the treasures were hiding. There was plenty of excitement, teamwork, and curiosity as our tamariki searched high and low!

Friday – Dinosaur Day

We finished our first week by travelling millions of years back in time for an exciting Dinosaur Day. Tamariki dressed up as their favourite dinosaurs and joined us on a prehistoric adventure.

We explored the fascinating world of dinosaurs through imaginative play, conversations, creative experiences, and lots of dinosaur fun. There were plenty of roars, stomping feet, and adventurous dinosaur explorers throughout the day!

Week 1 has been filled with creativity, imagination, culture, friendship, exploration, and lots of fun. It has been wonderful to see tamariki engaging with each theme in their own unique ways, sharing ideas with one another, and making new memories together.

Our holiday programme has been such an entertaining, engaging, and encouraging experience for our tamariki. It is especially lovely to see our younger siblings having the opportunity to be part of the programme over the two weeks while their older siblings are enjoying their school holidays.

This creates a wonderful sense of belonging and connection, allowing siblings to share experiences, make memories together, and enjoy the fun of our holiday programme as part of our wider centre whānau.

We can’t wait to see what exciting adventures Week 2 will bring!
