At BestStart Stoddard, we go beyond teaching basics—we nurture independence, confidence, and a love for learning. Through our Set for School programme and close partnerships with local schools, we help every child feel truly prepared for their next big step.
BestStart Stoddard recently hosted a highly successful parent information evening to discuss our Set for School programme. The evening was designed to give families a clear understanding of how we prepare 4–5-year-olds for a smooth, confident transition to primary school.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of the Deputy Principal from Mt Roskill Primary School, who spoke about the essential skills and qualities children need to be ready for school. This provided parents with invaluable, first-hand insights from a local school, directly addressing common questions and concerns.
Our preschool teachers also presented on the Set for School programme, sharing how its holistic approach goes beyond academic readiness. The curriculum focuses on:
-
Basic academic skills: colours, shapes, numbers, and letters introduced through play.
-
Building independence: encouraging children to manage belongings and care for their lunchboxes.
-
Social-emotional development: supporting communication, sharing, and building positive relationships.
-
Fine and gross motor skills: strengthening growth through active play.
-
Collaborative partnerships: aligning with local Kāhui Ako and primary schools to ensure a smooth transition.
Teachers also highlighted initiatives such as lunchbox days, reading book bags, and school visits. These help children become familiar with school routines and environments.
By combining a well-rounded curriculum with strong partnerships, BestStart Stoddard empowers children and families to feel confident, prepared, and inspired as they begin their learning journey.
