This week, BestStart Manukau hosted a successful and informative Set for School evening for our whānau. We were delighted to welcome Angela Cave, Head of the Junior Syndicate at Puhinui Primary School, as our guest speaker.

Angela shared valuable insights with parents about the foundational skills children need as they transition into primary school, such as early literacy, numeracy, self-help abilities, and social confidence. Her practical advice and warm approach helped families gain a clearer understanding of how to support their child’s learning journey.

Teachers Sharan and Anna, who led the event, also spoke about the centre’s play-based curriculum and how everyday experiences in our learning environment help children build the skills required for school readiness. They highlighted the intentional teaching strategies used to strengthen children’s language, problem-solving, fine motor development, and independence through meaningful play.

The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for parents to ask questions, share experiences, and engage with kaiako about their child’s progress. We are grateful to all the families who attended and contributed to the positive atmosphere.

We look forward to continuing our strong communication with parents and keeping them regularly updated about their child’s learning as they prepare for this exciting next step.
