Our Kotuku room tamariki have been feeling so motivated from the beginning of this year. We have a refreshed set of resources for them and the teachers are researching and bringing more play-based ideas for them to enjoy to get them ready for school.

We have reconnected with Puhinui Primary Primary School which is our closest local primary school and have made arrangements for regular visits there. Our oldest group of children felt very happy to go for a school visit. Children enjoyed going into a new entrant classroom and observing the environment.

The new entrant teacher welcomed them in and provided them with a range of fun activities they could participate in and at the same time develop knowledge and skills. Children also enjoyed playing in the jungle gym in the junior playground. They developed balancing skills, turn-taking, upper body strength, and many more through calculated risk-taking.

Through such experiences, our tamariki feel confident and empowered about taking the next step forward in their learning journey and getting ready for primary school. Our whanau feels delighted with the relationship we have with the local school and how we prepare their children for the transition to school.
