Showing our love for Christchurch
After the tragic events in Christchurch the children and staff at ABC Mayfield decided that we would like to show our support as a centre to those affected.
Each of the children spent time making a special card that they would like to send to one of our BestStart centres to show that we were thinking of them. Some of the children made multiple cards that they wanted to send. There were many different drawings in the cards ranging from flowers and hearts to an Optimus Prime that would "save Christchurch from the baddie". The children put a lot of love into their cards and some even chose which centre they would like their card to go to. We also made a big card that was placed at the memorial in Christchurch.
We had a colourful day where the children and teachers came dressed up in colourful clothing and raised money to donate to Christchurch. We had some face painting and a couple of children were able to paint the teachers faces which they thought was great fun!. We raised $100 that we donated to the givealittle page.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been receiving thank you emails, phone calls and cards from the centres around Christchurch, which we have been able to share with the children.
Through these experiences the children have learnt about ways they could support the Christchurch community and show that we care.
