Our tamariki were treated to a magical Story Time with a special visitor from Tauranga Library!

With animated reading, expressive voices, and playful props, she brought each story vividly to life.

The children were completely engaged — listening intently, laughing, and eagerly joining in with actions and dialogue. These moments provided rich opportunities for oral language development, imagination, and early literacy learning.

In alignment with Te Whāriki, this experience supports the Communication | Mana Reo strand, where tamariki develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills for a range of purposes. Through storytelling, they are encouraged to make meaning, engage with the rhythm and sounds of language, and connect emotionally with ideas and characters.

It also supports the Belonging | Mana Whenua and Contribution | Mana Tangata strands as children share a collective experience that fosters connection, participation, and joy in group learning. Visits like these also reflect our commitment to fostering partnerships with the wider community, recognising the importance of whanaungatanga and extending children’s learning beyond the centre environment.

At BestStart Bay Kindy, we treasure these moments that weave together literacy, creativity, and connection — nurturing confident communicators and lifelong lovers of stories.

We can not wait for our next story time session with the lovely ladies from Tauranga City Libraries.
