At BestStart Papanui, we love to take every opportunity to head outside — and with our ātea kēmu (amazing outdoor play space), who wouldn't?

 Today was no exception!

We popped on our hoodies and jackets and headed out to join JJ from Kelly Sports for a morning full of energy, laughter, and movement. JJ arrived with music playing and a big smile, setting the tone for a haere pai (fun, positive) sports session!

Our tamariki lit up with joy as they ran, jumped, danced, and played their way through a variety of games designed to get their bodies moving and their minds engaged. JJ brought ngā kare ā-roto pai (great positive energy) and made sure every child felt included and excited to participate. From ball games to dance moves, the session was packed with giggles, whakakata (laughter), and teamwork — all while supporting the development of important tinana (physical) and whanaungatanga (relationship) skills.

At preschool age, tamariki learn so much through movement — it’s how they explore, grow, and shine! Whether they’re climbing, running, or wiggling to music, being active helps build strong tinana (bodies), confident minds, and ngākau harikoa (happy hearts). We’re so grateful to JJ and Kelly Sports for bringing such a fantastic opportunity to our kura kōhungahunga (early learning centre). It’s always amazing to see our tamariki thriving not just physically, but socially and emotionally through mahi hākinakina (active play).

At BestStart Papanui, we have a strong focus on ngākau ora (healthy hearts) — through both atawhai (kindness) and physical activity — and we can’t wait to enjoy more sessions like this in the future!
