Spring has come to Beststart Russell Street. The tamariki have loved being able to get outside more often now that the weather is warming up.

We have had so much learning happening. We have planted some sunflowers to go with the broccoli. Tamariki and kaiako talked about looking after the environment so we can watch them grow and see them get bigger. We used our mathematical minds to think about how tall they might get. We have also had lots of water play out in both the trough and the sandpit.

The tamariki love using this to help in their sandpit creations such as sandcastles. It is also nice to cool off our feet in the water. Lastly, We have been exploring messy play. Using salt with some dye which makes a substance that the tamariki said was like snow. This is a great sensory experience through texture and colour mixing. The tamariki spent sustained amounts of time exploring this and moulding the "snow" into different shapes and creations.

We cannot wait to get outside and see what happens to our plants as they grow bigger and bigger, as well as exploring water and its various uses or finding some new ways to use salt and messy play.
